As an MBA student specializing in Finance at Regis University's School of Management, Lisa Herman had dreams of being top management. Little did she know those dreams would come true so much sooner than she had planned. "It started when I had to write a business plan for a class at Regis University," Herman said. "And that's how Happy Cakes was born."
Happy Cakes Bakeshop is a cupcake shop in the Highlands area of Denver, Colorado. Herman is co-owner of the shop with two other entrepreneurs. She handles the finances and operations. And occasionally the customer service, too.
"I've learned what it takes to lead an organization and be influential with business decisions."
She's influential with more than just the infrastructure of her business. Happy Cakes Bakeshop makes it a point to give back to the very community that has helped it succeed. They donate 3% of their gross revenue annually to many charitable foundations in need. Often it's in the form of product. And often that product goes to kids.
"We want to give back to those who took a chance on us." Herman says. That's why Regis University's Jesuit mission was so appealing to her. It taught her the value of changing the world in a positive way and being influential wherever you can - whether it's in cupcakes or corporate offices.
